I am not a die-hard conservative or anything, but I like Mitt Romney as a Candidate for the 2008 elections. Although he is fairly conservative in his beliefs, I think he is the Republican who is best poised to gain Democratic support. Here are a few interesting points about Romney:

He has run a majority Democratic state as a Republican governor with overwhelming success. He has leveled a huge state budget deficit and even created a $1+ billion surplus - Without raising taxes

Unlike most conservative Republicans, he supports stem-cell research when done with respect to life

He runs his campaign free of slander, mudslinging, and finger-pointing. He actually has a platform for what he plans to do instead of a program comprised 80% by rebuttals of the problems that everyone else might create. This is why he had overwhelming success and support from Democrats as a Republican in Massachussets.

He doesn't have a tainted past. He is virtually "untouchable" in terms of other candidates finding dirt on him. The only real critiques of Romney's candidacy all stem from people's paranoid assumptions about his religious affiliation. To his credit, however, Romney has done a stellar job running Massachussets without religious bias; otherwise he would not have near the Democratic support that he has.

John F. Kennedy was criticized for being Catholic, but when he became President and ran the country so successfully without bias from his Catholic beliefs, he went down as one of the greatest presidents the country has ever had.

I like this guy for President. He's a conservative, but also has moderate views, such as stem-cell research.

The guy is also very smart fiscal-wise. Look at the Salt Lake City Winter games. He pretty much took that over, and made it a success. Romney could also win MA, a big Democratic strong hold, which would be a big win.

It is actually *Mitt* Romney.

And he is the *former* governor of Massachusetts.

Some people will think he's too conservative, too fickle on issues, and some will even dislike him because he's a Mormon.

Hope this helps.
