I want to do a 1 year diploma in all three, but If I *Have* to choose... which one should I be?

Hairstylist
Bartender
Chef/Baker/Restaurant Owner

I want to run my own buisness, and with these three choices I could do that.

hairstylist: good hours and fun
bartender: crappy hours, plus you'll have to clean so much at the end of the night
restaurant: toooooooo much work!

I love food more than anything, so owning a restaurant would be my choice. However, trying to own and manage a restaurant would be a huge financial risk. Getting in on a franchise would be much easier.

I personally don't like drunk people! But bartending could be for you.

As has been said, hairstylists don't make tons of money. But if you're talented in that department, you would have some steady clients. I guess it depends where you're located and what you're best at.

Maybe you should visit some of the places around your town and frankly discuss this choice with restaurant owners, bartenders, and hairstylists. I imagine they would share their insight with you.

? None of them sound interesting to me. A hairstylist has to be on her feet all day trying to make ugly people look beautiful and listen to them talk and complain...

A bartender has to deal with drunk people, smell their alcoholic breath, listen to their sob stories and b.s., get hit on, etc... And you can't even have a drink while you're doing it...

Restaurant/food industry businesses are very very risky. First time business owners that go into the food business usually don't make it. Too much of an investment, too much to know. You really need experience to be successful in most cases.

Why don't you just go back to school and get a degree? There are far more interesting and lucrative options available to someone with a good education. Think about it.

Please don't get insulted. This is my honest opinion and the best advice I can think of.

If you choose to own a restaurant or work in that field, be prepared to work weekends, nights and holidays. Been there and you live your job. With a Bartender or a hairstylist the hours may be a bit more manageable. Why not own a salon? I have seen how much my wife pays to have her hair done!!!

Well a hairstylist always makes allot of money....
a bartender always is in need of allot of money ........ however we do get laid quit a bit.....
and a chef/baker/restaurant owner gets none of the above .....

You should know that owning your own restaurant is very difficult ...... many of them don't make it in the first couple of years

Good luck to you.

I say a Hairstylist this way you could still make great money but have time for your family and friends at night. The other 2 required a lot of night time. Also you could get burnt out on the "Night" life.

Hairstylists, in general, don't make a lot of money. If you have a good restaurant, you'll make a killing. You'll have to ask Christopher about the bartender perks.

Research the money issues involved in owning your own business. I would choose the one that is most realistic for you to achieve. You can set the other(s) as a long-term goal.
