Perimeter of a rectangle is
P=2L + 2W
this means perimeter equals twice the length plus twice the width
to solve for L
P=2L + 2W
subtract 2w from both sides to isolate the l
p - 2w = 2L + 2w - 2w
p - 2w = 2L
divide both sides by 2
(p-2w)/2=L
L=(p/2) - w

To solve that formula for L, it is like solving any other equation, you want to move everything away from L. Right now, it is solved for P.

First, move the 2w by adding -2w to both sides. Giving you P-2w = 2L.

Then, you need to divide by 2 so you have 1L instead of 2L. Just remember to divide the whole left side by 2, not just 2w.

So your new formula will be L = (P-2w)/2 or L= P/2 - w

L = (P - 2W)/2

That's all you can say without values to plug in.
