Fascist Pronunciation

Fascism means a totalitarian government led by a dictator and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism, militarism and often racism. I think the word was first used to despite the Mussolini government in Italy during WWII. Fascist is just a description of a leader of a fascist government that meets the description above.

This quote doesn't define fascism (you have already been given answers about that). I like it and I thought I'd share it:

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

Fascism Pronunciation

there really isn't a universal consensus definition. Mussolini was one of the only people to ever refer to his own regime as fascist, so people are usually referring to someone else when they use the term, which makes the meaning a bit murky.

the word is derived from the term fasci, which is a basically a bundle of sticks (the symbol of which can be found on the walls of congress, and on the back of the US dime, oddly enough), and represents centralized power. a fascist society usually has a sense that their nationality is superior to others.

Fascists are one type of statist. Statists, aka collectivists, subjugate the individual to the state. The individual person is a cog in the state machine. The difference between fascism and socialism is a difference in the ends to which you then use the people.

Click on this link for a chilling definition of what fascism means.
This is considered the classic treatise on what fascism is by Benito Mussolini, the fascist dictator of Italy who teamed up with Hitler to form the Axis Power of World War II. It will give you a real feeling for it, as well as the details, and it is not very long. When you have read this, you will no longer be in doubt about what it means to use the word fascist, I assure you.

Literally, Fascism is where the people own tools of production, but the government dictates policy to the businesses.

Communism is very similar, only the people don't own the tools of production.

Example of fascism? Smoking bans. With a smoking ban, private citizens own a bar, but government feels that the people are not smart enough to make their own decisions about health or selecting the right bar to patronize, so they take a perfectly legal activity and ban it. And how do they do it? They call a privately owned bar a 'public place'.

Folks, we are not that far away...
