i have a south western collard lizard and recently he wasnt eating and i called the place where i got him from and they said that with the cooler temperatures lately i should get a hotter heat lamp because when lizards are cold their digestive system shuts down and they dont eat. i got i new lamp and a thermometer for his tank and now the temperature is around 80 to 88 on average. but now his eyes keep getting crusted shut and i read online that he could have a cold is this true? if not what is wrong and what should i do?

Lizards can catch colds as well as mammals. Especially when they have been kept at lower than 'normal' temperature.

If the water isn't changed often enough, or the lizard's bowl isn't cleaned often enough, they can get bacterial infections.

Another possibility is a parasite infection.

I would recommend a Vet, but apparently some of the eye drops ( Ciprofloxacin and similar opthalmic drops) have been used by lizard keepers to good affect.

could be a type of conjuntivitus... tub her eyes for some days with a cotton wool pad and lukewarm water and gently dab them some situations an afternoon. If there's no improvment, take her to work out a professional.

he might be dehydrated. if so his eyes wont' water properly and they may get stuck. also he may just not like to open them and they may not be stuck at all. when i first got my first iguana he used to shut his eyes everytime my hand came near him. he would try to play dead. but after he got used to me, he became so interested in people that i had to keep him caged alot because people were scared of him.

It sounds like he's sick. You should take him to a vet that specializes in reptiles.
