Go with Mac. Easier to use, negligible viruses, no spyware problems and comes with great software out of the box that are "add ons" in the PC world.

Pricing of hardware that is equal specifications from Dell vs. Apple usually favours Apple by a few hundred bucks. (Double or triple the price? Maybe 10 years ago...)

If you really need to run windows for some obscure PC software, you can install Parallels or Boot Camp and run XP or Vista (seems to be a few copies available right now at your local retailer). Just remember to load up your anti-spyware/virus software if you do.

Office 2004 for Mac gives you Word, Excel, Power Point and Entourage (Outlook equivalent) - similarly priced as in the PC world. Office 2007 coming out soon. Office X runs great still.

If you are going to do some gaming, don't go with the Mac Mini - just as you would not go with a base model Dell. The video processing is done by the main processor, instead of a dedicated video card.

50% of the PC IT department staff at my work have Macs at home (4 out of 8 staffers) - and they work on PCs all day.

Well, heres my point of view. I used to hate PC, until, I used my friends Mac. I hate Mac more then I hate PC. Here is why.

My PC runs all my games, and any game I can find. They load, run, and have little problems. The programing for PCs are more user friendly. And with Vista, you can do almost everything MAC does now. I was watching a thing from apple making fun of Vista cause they copied them, I say, good job. The MACs fast searching ability fused with Windows awesomness.

And another thing thats funny, Windows gets hit with virues, spyware, adware, etc, all the time. If you have a good firewall and antispyware, your basically safe. As long as you search for problems every so often. Now the funny thing is, Apple was all high and mighty, saying they never get security breaches, but then, after a few weeks, they were hit with alot, like, 30. They only put security patches out for most of them. Also, Vista is going to be more Secure then XP by alot, they changed some things so its alot harder to hack. Windows will be the safest bet. They stay ontop of attacks and fix them.

I don't know why people are saying PC's are expensive. I checked an apple equivalent to mine, and it was almost $400 more. For the same thing, except I would have carried the Apple name and the right to complain about everything. Oh, and id have the right to poke fun at everyone else who didnt have Apple. I personally don't like it. The only real thing that Mac has over the PC is the video editing software. I have found free software for windows that is either same or better then the Mac software, like Garage band. Plus, if I remember correctly, you have to pay for updates. But I may of heard wrong, though thats what ive heard in a couple places. I personally don't own a mac, I just played on one for a few weeks.

Programs, though MAC has alot of programs for it, PC has alot more. All the games ive seen are Windows, or Windows + Mac, I have had to search to find strictly MAC, and Ive only seen a few that are Windows + Mac. So, Windows has alot more programs and games for it.

Id go with PC, its the best bet.

If you do go with PC, stay away from HP, Compaq, Dell, Especially Emachines. I would have a custom built computer off of Xotic PC or something, it may cost a little more, but you wont have to worry about the mass programs the companies add. Especially HP, they are the worst. They add spyware in the programs and everything. I know cause I did a scan for Adware, viruses, spyware, etc, right after it was turned on. I deleted all the stuff that came up, then, nothing wanted to work game wise. So, the games got deleted too. Then, I went online, and there was about 50 things that tried accessing the internet, so, needless to say, I deleted mass amount of stuff. Just a thought.

Depends on what you want it for. If you want it to be hip and trendy and to mainly download music or create movies, then go with a Mac.
Otherwise, PCs dominate the market place and are far more compatible with all of the software out there. If you are younger and have little experience with a pc, it would be a good learning experience, because that is what you would like be using in any career.
If you really are not concerned with running lots of programs and are most concerned with just using it for simple tasks like searching the web, buy a mac.

It depends on what you want to do with your computer. For web programming, music composition, graphics and photography, nothing beats a Mac. But both the Mac and the software usually cost more than their PC versions. In addition, there are fewer software titles available for the Mac, since there are fewer of them sold.

It's truly dependent upon what you need. If you like simple video editing and multimedia capabilty, then a Mac is probably the best solution (though, PC is capable of doing this, as well).

If you want compatibility, upgradeability, and gaming, PC it is.

PC - cheaper, you can add items as you can afford them (just add a bigger hard drive, or bigger monitor, etc) - disadvantages are that they are not quite as reliable and friendly (the fault of windows)
MAC - more expensive, it will keep running as long as you want it to - but if you want a bigger screen you have to buy a whole new computer

i say Mac, but they are not more expensive.

Configure a 20" iMac and then configure the PC you're thinking of (HD, RAM, Processor, Graphics Card, etc.)

i think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

and you can connect ANY screen to ANY Mac. come on people do some research

You can have both! The Intel Macs can boot into either an OS X (mac) or Windows platform.

Its simple. If you want to work with Graphics go with a Mac. If you want to work with everything else go with a PC.
