the american schools are in the lower ranks of other developed countries? I've been reading "The schools we need, and why don't we have them." That to me is really horrible, we live in a great country but our future generations have crappy educations. What is your opinion as to why this is, and what do you think can be done to prevent it?

Ask any school with a bad educational program why they aren't up to par, and they will tell you it is because they don't have the resources to buy the books, hire quality teachers, get new computers, etc. They don't have the resources because education is not a priority in Washington. Want better education for your children? Make it a priority when you pick the candidate you support. Local government, city, school district, state can only do so much. The funds to overhaul the american educational system has to come from the top.

the problem is that some children are not being taught discipline and structure at home the younger generation expects everything to be easy and handed to them and life does not owe anyone a living that is up to the personhow hard they want to work and achieve. Limit a child and a teens usage of video games, children need to read and use thier imagination,
education is very important if you want to succeed in the real world, the world is a lot more competivite than it was 20 years ago. In short parents need to be made aware of what thier child is leaning in school. Make people aware of the problem so they can help.

Yeah, America does have a big problem in that arena!

Here is an example, when I visited Baltimore this past summer, my 13 year old cousin thought that the twin towers were in D.C! (I am not kidding)

A lot of Canadians know about America more than most Americans (how sad is that!)

It's all about fast and disposable these days, why wouldn't that apply to our kid's educations too? We understand the news by soundbite, we're too lazy to want in-depth reporting, we eat whatever's quickest and easiest (junk), we watch television instead of reading, do I need to go on? We also reward stupidity and mediocrity. You don't need to be able to READ to pass a grade.

Hire teachers from the country's of the highest scored students.Pay them better then their getting, and get them to train our teachers is the logical way to go with this.and take disruptive students OUT of the class room s there in and put them in rooms with other disruptive children.no violence is to be tolerated in schools period.all students who do wrong go to special schools, to leave room for the good students to be able to learn.this would do it.along with better supplies for the students, have an advanced class for special students to excel

Our government spends too much money to have material printed in Spanish and too much money catering to the illegal immigrants to have enough money to have proper schools
