For example, China has got dibs on Darfur, PetroChina is over there drilling oil.

And another one, the US in Iraq, we all know Halliburton is all over the oil in Iraq.

What do you think?

I would suspect that Darfur is receiving the going rate for oil from China. Most of the middle east countries, Russia, Venezuela, etc. relay heavily on oil revenue. The problem, what is Darfur doing with all the oil revenue; is it in the hands of a few corrupt officials?

It doesnt seem that way to me at all. The Governments of many foreign countries like the many countries of Africa are so corrupt that they waste the limited funds that they have and should be using for the care of their people. Some of these countries even have great potential like natural resources or tourism and they still cant make it work due to unstable enviroments and religious unrest. Additionally, when they do get foreign aid either directly from foreign governments or more specifically from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the form of low interest loans or loan guaratees they squander the funds and go into default. How fair is it for developed nations to and financial institutions to bear the brunt of the default when it was corrupt politicians that lead to the default. Then we have to hear that *** Bono complain that these poor countries are dying under the weight of their own debt.

Unfortunately it isn't just about oil. Poor countries are led by piss poor governments who abuse their people. When the big countries try to help the Governments steal the food and money sent. Large companies do take advantage, but you have to focus more on the corrupt nature of the poor countries governments.

"we all know Halliburton is all over the oil in Iraq."

you'd think that you democrats would look up a timeline of the income increases over the past 6 years, along with timelines of financially similar gas companies.

But making assumptions based on an irrational thought that cross your mind is a lot easier, huh?

Last time i checked, we liberated Iraq... Not rape it.

How do you think these so called poor countries make money? From companies drilling for oil. These poor country's governments are the ones responsible for their condition, not the wealthy countries.

So buy Petrochina. Product prices are volatile but it pays a nice dividend.

You need to take off your liberal colored glasses and get rid of that victim mentality. Since when has Bush or Cheney said we went to Iraq or are there for oil? They NEVER have!! That's propaganda from the left and a TOTAL lie! But you're free to believe whatever you'd like. Our soldiers there are protecting your freedom.

It does seem that way, sometimes.Actually they are being raped by their own corrupt leaders. We could go in and change leaders for them. That doesn't seem to work though.
