Back in the day when I was a little punk (probably about 10 years ago) I listened to Bad Religion, Pennywise, Operation Ivy, The Mr. T Experience, NOFX, and the Suicide Machines (among others). Not sure if their new stuff is any good - but the old stuff was pretty rockin.

I don't know if Punk Rock has changed... but that was the scene 10 years ago.

Check out: Bad Religion - All Ages

No one beats "The Clash". Hands down best band (of any kind - not just punk) of all time.

Start with the 'London Calling' album. Once you're hooked on that move on to 'The Clash' (self titled debut album). Get the U.S. version of this, not the U.K. version - it's slightly different and much better. Next get 'Black Market Clash' or 'Super Black Market Clash' which is an expanded version. The expanded one has a ton more songs - many of which may not be of interest to a newbie. After that get 'Sandinista' (amazing triple album), then 'Give 'em Enough Rope'. Finish off your collection with 'Combat Rock' which contains 2 of their biggest U.S. hits (Rock the Casbah & Should I stay or should I go), but is actually their weakest album.

Avoid 'Cut the Crap' at all costs. This was released after Mick Jones left the band, and is 'Crap'.

P.S. 'The Clash' (U.S. version) is -THE- greatest album of -ALL- time. I recommend starting with 'London Calling' however as it may be a better introduction to the work.

P.P.S I forgot to mention the Clash's 'From Here to Eternity - Live'. An excellent live album recorded back in the day, but released just a couple years ago. Get that once you've become a total Clash fiend looking for something new.

P.P.P.S For post-Clash stuff, Mick Jones had some pretty solid output with his group Big Audio Dynamite. Get the debut 'This is Big Audio Dynamite'. Joe Strummer had a number of good songs over the post-Clash years, though I can't recomend any whole albums as "must haves". Find his cover of Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song' - which is quite good. There is also a version of that (Redemption Song) edited together as a duet with Johnny Cash (I believe they both recorded it seperately). That is simply AMAZING! Find it.

Fugazi's cd "13 Songs" is an awesome punk rock album, all the way through
For punk pop, Rancid's song "Ruby Soho" is pretty decent, and for goth/punk, the Bauhaus "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is cool. Have fun
