From the way I see it it was the failure of Republican foreign policies in the Mid-east over the last sixty years that caused them do start calling us "The Great Satan" to begin with and to burn our flags that the Republicans sold to them for top price!!!!!!!

I do have to point out that the Republicans have not been in power for the last 60 years. The Democrats have to carry their share of the blame. To try to blame it all on one party or the other shows a very poor grasp on international affairs and even domestic affairs which effectively invalidates any point you may make because it is formed in an obvious state of ignorance.
Then, you are talking about fanatics and trying to apply logic to their actions. There is no logic behind the behavior of fanatics.
Also, you have to consider fundamentalist Islam. Their goal is to destroy all infidels. It doesn't matter what you do, if you are an infidel they will try to kill you. And that is the bottom line.

The bigger picture here is a clash of ideologies, There is so much misinformation on both sides that our image of eachothers culture & intentions is pretty skewed. Many Americans consider Iran an enemy, why? Because they practice a different religion? or because they threaten an ally (Isreal)? To single out one party or adminsration for the current problems doesn't make sense. The conflict in the middle east is centuries old, & if the Romans, English, or Russians couldn't contian it, what chance does America have of success?
