We bit the bullet 9 years ago and forked over the $$ for a Honda 15. Four stroke, (more environmentally friendly) not to mention not having to endure the smoke and fumes like we did with the Sailmaster 9.9. Electric start and alternator to recharge batteries. We operate in a salt-water environment, no problems with electronics or corrosion of any kind. Our maintenance so far has consisted of water impeller replacement (once) changed spark plugs and fluids annually. I find it difficult to believe there could possibly be a better motor on the market anywhere.

Haven't regretted it for a minute.

Good Luck

Tohatsu is the same as a nissan outboard motor. This question is just a matter of personal preferance. Check out the websites for all of these engines and see what the ratings are and the performance to see which one suits you best. I prefer Johnson/Evinrude myself. A whole lot less problems since i have owned both and they are a lot easier to work on if there is a problem.. Also check the warrenty information.

I would get a 4 stroke Honda, 4 stroke motors are heaps better than a 2 stroke, otherwise get a Mercury, or an Evenrude

of course that's 4-stroke you speak of...they are the same except for the electronics and that's a weak point for Mercury. do the Tohatsu unless you can find a cheaper $$ one.
