you do not say how many times a week you are exercising, but you need to consume protien preferably 6 times a day in small meals,

you need to over work the muscles in order to make them grow, check out some of your local weight lifting places, they are better than the national chains at steering you in the right direction, you will need several different proteins, fish, chicken, meat, bean, you can buy a soy protein drink and replace a meal with that, or protein powder in a non fat yogurt etc.

you should go to a vitamin/supplement store, talk to a pro and pick up some high calorie, muscle building protein powder.

you don't want to just consume calories to say you had your daily calories. you want them to be good productive calories. and sense you are working out you should have daily protein shakes anyway.
