Would really like to incorporate those existing items into the new 'robe, but like I said, the altered items don't fit snuggly in the waist (pockets in the way) and the slacks don't hang properly (too saggy in the seat and kind of limp starting at the knee). And the shoulders don't work at all!

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Enjoy the new you with NEW clothes. I'd pack those $$$$ items and bury them. I wouldn't want to ever feel like I did when I was in the $$$$ clothes. Move on!!! You'll thank yourself for it.

I hav a hard time finding clothes in a small enough size for me- so I have to get these giant 6's and have them made into a 2. Some don't alter well and I try to remember not to buy that style again. BUT most do well you just have to find someone who knows how to fit a pattern.

Things can be altered but make sure that you take them to a good seamstress/taylor. This won't be cheap. It will only be cost effective to do it to really expensive/classic items.

Good luck. I hope to have the same problem in a couple of months. Congrats on the weight loss.

get a good tailor to resize them for you. it can be expensive losing a bunch of weight and having no wardrobe.
I don't know if jeans will look that great altered. it may be so expensive to get a tailor to alter your pants, you may just want to buy new ones. as for dresses - they are easy to 'take in'. I find shirt sleeves on bigger clothes too roomy after weight loss and difficult to take in.
