You need a router or switch to allow multiple computers to connect to your broadband connection.

there are 2 ways you can connect your nephew,s laptop to your broadband connection
1)you can connect by a wired connection i.e by using the ethernet(rj-45)lead,you normally get these when you get your broadband router but if you need another one most p.c, shops sell them, simply install the talk-talk set up disk on to your nephews laptop and follow the instructions on-screen,you can use this method for every computer you add to your broadband router
2)or you can use a wireless connection, your router must support wireless ,and if it does the laptop must also support wi-fi,however most modern laptops support wi-fi,again simply run the talk-talk software through the laptop and follow on-screen instructions
broadband services are divided mainly into 2 types...a.d.s.l (bt,aol, tiscali) and cable (n.t.l,cable and wireless, telewest),and each type need different hardware such as different routers and different software(installation cd,s)
from experience i have found people have said the talk-talk routers are not very good,as you are using a a.d.s.l router you could purchase a better router such as a netgear wireless router(http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/GWirelessRouters.aspx)
good luck
