I was looking at finding a new doctor to get a pap done but was not sure if it would be better to go to a womens clinic or like a gynocoligist, or just a family doctor? I am not really comfortable with all this but who is. Any advice on what you perfer would be great.

I'm 54 and have gone to a male gynocologist since my early teens and first check up. Back then they didn't have many female GYNs. I'd feel funny going to a female GYN now. If you feel funny about going to a male doctor, go to a female GYN. If you go to a clinic, ask for a female doctor. I'd suggest a Board Certified GYN doctor because if you go to your family doctor and something would be wrong, they would probably refer you to a GYN anyway. Clinics are good but are sometimes not as personal as a doctor you keep going back to and develop a good rapport with. Also, at clinics, you may not get the same doctor every time you go. Good luck.

My personal experience is that the most comfortable is your own doctor / family doctor. He's been my doctor my entire life, I know him, he knows me, and I feel comfortable around him.
It is never a fun thing for a girl to have this done, but the more relaxed you are, the better - and we're all different. If you don't feel you can be relaxed and comfortable, or don't trust your family doctor, go somewhere else.
It's really about personal choice - I want someone who knows me. Other people wants to go somewhere where they can be anonymous.
You might want to take someone with you - your mum or a friend. Especially if this is the first time you'll have it done, it will be nice to have someone with you.

If you have health insurance go to a gynecologist or your family doctor. If you don't the clinic would be better. You may feel more comfortable with your family doctor. Either way, I recommend a female physician because they understand women and know what really goes on with the female body because they experience it first hand.

I guess it is up to you cuz actually I saw a general Physician and if there is a concern they will send you to a Gynaecologist. If you had any questions regarding other concerns and you were seeing a gynaecologist then they might send you to your "Primary". So if I was you I guess I would start w/a General Physician. If you aren't feeling helped and don't feel comfortable w/your Dr then shop around cuz a good Dr is an important thing. I hate feeling like I am on a conveyor belt n they are rushing me out...so find a good Doctor : )

Best Wishes w/this!

My personal opinion on this is go to an OB/Gyn. For a specialized area of the body (your reproductive system), I believe in specialists. To ensure the greatest degree of personal comfort, see a female OB/Gyn or Nurse Practitioner. Nothing like talking to someone who's been through it all too and truly understands first hand how you feel.

Well, a gynocologist is the expert on these type of things..but since I don't have one, I usually just go to a clinic and they do it right there on the spot, without an appointment or anything. I'd suggest you do what you feel most comfortable with.

that's comprehensible while you're uncomfortable approximately having that style of examine up, yet ensure to circulate. You by no skill ought to circulate to any style of physician or dentist or something, yet you ought to to make specific you're wholesome. you ought to probable see a female physician, nevertheless, so this isn't any longer as awkward, yet besides which you ought to only endure it, the appointments are not long. you do no longer want to get your self in the placement the place you have an infection or have some style of well-being subject which will impression you long term, and don't get it dealt with for the reason which you're afraid to circulate to the physician. For the 2d question, are you asking in case you masturbating will make you ought to circulate to a gyno? If it is the question, then it is going to no longer exchange something, some techniques of doing it might make you greater services to an infection, yet you have indications of something like that, so it does not impression something above.

I prefer to go to my OB/GYN instead of our family doctor. Both are fine to go to ... but my OB is just my preference ... since my OB has done all my prenatal care and everything I just feel more comfortable with him ... in such an uncomfortable situation. Yes I said him ... I have a male OB doctor, and I truly love him. I was more comfortable having a male than a female. But again it is all up to you. Best of luck.

I believe in establishing a relationship with a family Doctor. For regular yearly exams he is all you will need. I think it is important for a Doctor to have your total record each time you go in. You will become more comfortable in talking to someone about any problems you have as time passes.

i just go to my family doctor. there are about 7 dr's there, and i've had 4 different ones (2 are guys). my mom goes to her gyno, and doesnt like the idea of a man doing it, tho my first time was with a man and he seemed to just want to get it over instead of chatting, but the women seem to try to make it more comfortable (experience-wise) and will talk to make you feel less stressed out.
