The saying is that life is NOT a bowl of cherries.
which means it isn't fun and easy all the time.
sometimes it doesn't taste as good as cherries.
There is another saying "life IS like a box of chocolates"
which is used a lot in the movie "Forrest Gump"
in that you never know what you are going to get.
sometimes a caramel, sometimes a creme, sometimes a nut.
so you are mixing your similes here.

"Life is like a bowl of cherries" is a two-sided statement to remind someone that life has two sides, and can turn on a dime.
"Life is like a bowl of cherries because cherries taste good, but eventually you'll have to deal with the pits."
ps Sufi,,,the original saying IS "Life is Like a bowl of cherries".....the saying "Life is NOT a bowl of cherries" was a negative response similar to "If life is like a bowl of cherries, howcome I'm always in the pits?".... Sorry sweety,but you're the one with her "similes mixed up". ...and are you really trying to say "mixing my metaphores"?

"Life is just a bowl of cherries" generally means that life is pleasant, and not to be taken too seriously.
