I was told that you can tell if a person is Chinese or Japanese by their eyes? Is this a proven fact or an ignorant stereotype?

It's not really just about the eyes. Asians tend to be able to tell each other apart from Asians of other ethnic group by physical features. Japanese tend to look more Caucasian with their their more pronounced noses while Chinese do not have very defined noses. Koreans often have high cheekbones. Filipinos are said to have big eyes. However, those generalizations are not always accurate partly because of some intermarriage between people of other ethnic groups. There are Chinese populations in Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia.

The same goes with Africa, which is made up of many different groups. Variation in facial features, skin tone, and average height height are visual indications of where an individual comes from. If you read "Bound for Canaan", (a historical book about the Underground railroad), the author mentioned that during slave trade, there were certain tribes that were favored for doing certain tasks. African-Americans have the blood of various peoples that were brought to North America.

this is been an exciting subject to learn! I even have studied Martial Arts my entire existence and am sixty two years previous and function discovered that the ameliorations are greater cultural than actual! whether regionally the chinese language in the Northern factors of China look taller and their eyes are closer in visual attraction to the folk who stay in Mongolia and Tibet! The Southern chinese language look shorter and their eyes are greater such as the eastern and Taiwanese! it is extremely subjective so i assume it is distinctly lots the way something of the international sees it too! The Germans did a "racial" study until eventually now WWII and took facial measurements and a few of that Ido is obtainable on the cyber web in case you google it!

No. My friend, who is Japanese, told me to look for facial structure. Look at Jet Li's face compared to the guy who played in the Last Samurai. I have noticed that Koreans have very slanted eyes. If you hang with them for a while, you will notice a difference.

Not by their eyes... I've found that Japanese people - more than any other Asian race have caucasian like bridges to their nose - more pronounced. Chinese and other asian groups "tend" to have smaller, flattened or no bridge at all - if that makes any sense. Also certain asian groups have a "look" about them that is indigenous to their area but that can be said about any race of people - even within the United States.

I can guess, but until I hear them talk (assuming they have accents), I really don't know.
