But seriously, in reference to Cordova's answer, in my opinion, we acquire knowledge intensively civilization, cultures, and ways of living of other people in the world through extensive learning e.g. reading . We also have the so called mass-media effect. If we have to physically experience for ourselves to learn the Hungarian culture, it would be then a so expensive, luxurious , and/but absurd way of living, sensibly speaking. We research using books or textbooks as resources . or not ,there is also the major advantage of availing internet. This is what I am trying to point out.
But the Great wall of China, why I used it as the the image of my metaphor, as we all know it was built by the Qin Dynasty and later fortified by the Ming Dynasty, is i am trying to actually think if there is a possible reason why a person should curtail others from truth in parallel to China's main intention of building the wall to block any western influence to absorb their civilization.

perhaps you're on a slightly different "wavelength" than many of the people you encounter. also, many people are very "protected/guarded" in dealing with others so as to avoid experiencing yet futher aggravation and trauma. this is not a wise strategy, ultimately, but certainly understandable. thus, you wouldn't actually be interacting with who they "really are". mostly, among humans, one "persona" meets another. in other words. one facade deals with another false front. it can be rather unpleasant and unfulfilling, especially if you're sensitive and insightful. it can be a lonely place here on planet earth, especially for the non-troglodytes. ultimately, there are like minded beings out there, you just have to be patient, hopeful, and "kiss" quite a few toads along the way ;-)

Are you rich? If not you are very likely not interacting physically with the rest of the world.
