but, the only thing that is holding me back is the schooling, i heard it can take up to 8 yrs. to get my degree, and i am not looking forward to that, does anybody know any true facts about being a vet and the schooling it takes?

yes, it is usually 8 years (unless you bust your butt even more than will be needed and finish an undergrad degree in 3 years). So generally you need 4 years of undergrad, then 4 years of vet school. Vet shool is a firm 4 years, now way around that. During your undergrad year you will have to get prerequisites out of the way (english, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biology ect). Each vet school has their own requirements, but most are basically the same. As far as your major goes, anything biology related will definatley help (animal science, microbiology, molecular biology ect). However you could do a non bio major as long as prerequisites are met. You must maintain good grade throughout undergrad. If your state does not have a vet school, you will need about a 3.6 GPA to look competitive. You also have to get vet experieince. Ideally you should work for both a small animal and large animal vet. Research expereince is a plus. Also extracurricular activities such as prevet club if your school has one is nice to add to your vet school application. Getting into vet school is very hard, there are only around 25 in the country, verses over 100 medical schools.
