I think its the lamest excuse for a 'holiday' EVER. I've never celbrated it, I've never bought my significant other anything on it, and I never would want anyone that expected me to.

The way I look at it, if I need a specific day to show my love the my love is nothing but a show. I would rather bring home flowers, or chocolates, or dinner reservations.. on any other day in the year when its not expected of me by society. That, to me, is a more realistic showing of affection and love.

Am I alone in this? It seems I am for the most part?

Hell, you know what? I can't STAND it.

But you can't not buy your girl something because thenshe'll feel bad and you'll be public enemy number one - for THAT reason it's all fakery, I'd rather buy her stuff like you, any other time. I tend not to "go out" on V-day and not buy any hearts or any roses - I get her a card and I buy her something else something personal. I'm not a kid going out buying a balloon and a box of candy - it's a load of ****... be romantic another day - any day -, when it means something other than tack tack tack - to be honest she's worth more than that.

I like the free candy.
no, no, APRIL FOOLS DAY is the lamest excuse for a holiday EVER!!!

your not alone, its just a cute marketing strategy. Why does cupid give a damn about our love? It does put unnecessary pressure on people.

but that is kinda weird, so you have a significant other that you love, but dont buy them anything. Not even on the day when it would be kind nice since "love is in the air". Do you atleast say nice things and show some affection? Or do you just ignore the person on this day for the sake of your point.

this is fishy....

No you are not alone. There are plenty of people out there who dislike the "holiday" just as much as you do. For some, it's like a deadline to get a significant other or even just a date on that night. It's not romantic at all and it's annoying to see all these people receive crappy balloons and presents that are super cheesy. I've gotten roses every year on Valentine's Day whether I had someone or not and all it did was kinda make me feel like a loser. I don't want anything. I just want the holiday eliminated.

First off, I agree with you that we should show our love to the people we care about every day, and not need a specific day to do something special.

That said, I am emphatically NOT going to come down against any holiday that involves the possibility of receiving chocolate candy. I think we should have many more such dates on the calendar.

Oh-- wait-- if we treated the people we love like every day was Valentine's day, then every day we might expect chocolates, right?

Sign me up! ;-))

Although it is good to know that people enjoy buying flowers and things just because. I personally love Valentine's Day. I buy my husband gifts all year around as well but I enjoy Valentine's Day because we always make it extra special. There is nothing wrong with a day made especially for lovers. Sometimes people get so caught up in everyday life that they forget the little things that makes their loved special and this is a time to bring them back to it.

You're not alone brother. I hate Valentines day!!!!! I tell my wife I love her every day in actions and words. It is an insult to my intelligence to have a stupid holiday for sweethearts. By God, if you can only muster up your love once a year in the form of cards and flowers, you should stay out of the love business!

I love it. It doesn't suck like Christmas, with all that gift giving pressure and stuff. I bring my wife flowers and stuff for no reason all year round, and she give me "treats" all the time as well, but any excuse for her to get into some silly lingerie and make a little extra effort is cool with me. I mean, whats the harm?
The only thing I don't like is how restaurants service sucks on that day, so I just avoid restaurants.

you are not alone at all, your post is like reading my mind, most divorces begin on this day, you shouldn't need a day on the Calender to show your love and/or affection for your significant other. Myself and my girlfriend remind ourselves what a stupid holiday it is and get a good laugh when we see commercials and printed ads about it, I guess we are both low maintenance

I'm all for the celebration of chocolate, which comes after all major holidays when the candy goes on sale. Otherwise, I'm more about actually enjoying myself, rather than spending a fortune on a new dress and accessories, spending an evening in uncomfortable shoes and undies, and I'm still supposed to feel like wild nookie afterwards? Yeah, thanks, they always love me for my mind.

Valentine's Day is like a day for those people to "remember" & "think of" their mate, (for those who neglect them for the remainder of the year...) but for some, like me, i do not need a valentine's day to show how i feel and appreciate that significant other.. Valentine's day is a day where business owners make a profit (including with Christmas).
