Have you heard of a T-chart.
Assign arbitrary numbers for x (-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3) and plug them into the equation to solve for y.
Plot your x and corresponding y on a graph and draw a line through them.

find y by substituting various values of x into the right hand expression:
x = 1 y = -1
x = 2 y = -3
x = 2.5 y= -3.25
x = 3 y = -3
x = 4 y = -1

when the above points are plotted the result will be a parabola oening upward with vertex at 2.5,-3.25

The second problem is solved in the same manner.
