Well, I didn't successfully complete the fall, but I happened to catch myself on the nearby railing (thank gawd). This happened last week (it is cold and has been raining off and on here).
I was wearing a pair of Nike Shox TL IV's. I really don't think shoes have anything to do with it, though. I have been just as surefooted on ice with Birks as I have with hiking shoes, it's about placement, and how slick the ice is.

I slipped and fell on the ice about 12 years ago and broke my leg. I was wearing a very hard soled shoe at the time.

I really don't remember. Few years ago... maybe. I guess walking on ice without loosing grip don't depend so much on kind of sole of shoes you are wearing, but rather on the way you balance. Its like difference between car with ABS system and one without. Well, you can try shoes with metal spines like for mountain climbing for perfect grip :) (rather crazy idea, I think...).

I slipped & fell on the sidewalk outside my office about a month ago, wearing heels since I have to dress professionally for my job. Just skinned my knee though, not hurt too bad.

In Jan 2001, I stepped off my stairs took 2 steps and my feet slid backwards, I went down face first(my yard sloped upward away from the house). I didn't have time to catch myself with my hands. I was holding on to my purse. I bruised my shoulder and collar bone! Ouch that hurt! We had had about 3 inches of ice! I was wearing Dexter walk mocs!

I was ice skating @ Rockefeller center - i had ice skates on, but what made me "finally" fall, was my nephew - hanging on SO hard - took at least a minute for him to finally pull me down!
