I didn't say Target is better but now that you ask:Target represents industry best practices in its approach to environmental issues.Target has been an industry leader in recycling and energy efficiency and reduces waste generation through recycling and minimizing packaging. On the procurement side, Target purchases green energy and recycled content for its packaging. On the retail side, its “green” purchasing initiative includes increasing use and supply of recycled-content and non-toxic products. Target demonstrates best practices in community relations Since 1992, Target has required its non-US direct vendors to state that the goods produced are not made by child or forced labor. source Calvert investments and if you don't believe Walmart is the Devil's market go to http://walmartwatch.com/docs/electeds/Wal-Mart_Top_10_Egregious_Business_Practices.pdf

Okay for starters I have a brother that works for Target and they treat him and quite a few of his co-workers like trash and not only that he is paid less money per hour than someone at Walmart doing the same job. Secondly you should read the book The Wal-Mart Effect it is quite interesting and very educational. I like Target and WalMart equally they are just like any other stores to me.

Wal-mart is not evil...you have been brainwashed into hating the by the competition.

Wal-Mart's critics dwell heavily on how the company heartlessly drives small-town stores out of business.
One never hears the obvious problem with that allegation: that Wal-Mart can't drive anyone out of business. Only customers can do that, and millions of them happily drive right past those little stores because they'd rather pay lower prices. Of course it isn't just Wal-Mart that draws them. Home Depot and Lowe's have been death for small hardware stores, Zales for mom-and-pop jewelry shops, Sports Authority for the old sporting goods retailers. They're all using the plunging cost of computing power and telecommunication to create previously impossible business models that give customers what they want.

And secondly, that WalMart's lack of health coverage for workers is a larger issue that shouldn't be focused just on WalMart.

So many focus the fact that many Wal-Mart workers don't get very good medical coverage-or any at all. Hello, its 2007. Everybody's medical coverage is getting stingier because in a global economy, where U.S. workers compete with those in Datang and Wal-Mart competes for capital with every other business on earth, American companies can't continue paying the world's highest health-care costs. Don't blame Wal-Mart; blame America's inability to devise a national health plan that takes the burden off employers.

No, I actually like Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart makes it easier for me to get by month by month. When I first got married, I could get by while shopping at other places because most other costs of living were pretty low. But with the higher gas prices and subsequent higher utility costs, my household wouldn't be able to make ends meet without Wal-Mart.

My only complaint with Wal-Mart is that they are not as friendly as they used to be. Some cashiers are downright rude, too. But that's what managers are for.

I've said why I like Wal-Mart, but you never said why you hate it. I know a few people that hate Wal-Mart, including my mother. (She says it's too loud and that the employees are rude and unaccomodating.) Everyone has different reasons, though.

I don't like the allegations of variences in pay for male and female workers, but I didn't follow the case that much to see the conclusion, if there has been one yet.

Other than that, Walmart has stepped up to the plate and started to shoulder it's responsiblity for the environment and is finding out that being a green or sustainable company is paying off in savings. Hopefully they do the same in handling their employees.

My brother was a barber for 20 years. He got hit by a semi truck when the driver had fallen asleep. Both of his legs and hips were crushed. When his legs and hips healed, he could no longer stand on them all day to be a barber. He applied at various places and all turned him down...he hadn't done anything but be a barber for 20 years. Walmart gave him a chance. They gave him a desk job and said show us what you can do. Fifteen years later, he is still there. He makes a really good salary and has been promoted dozens of times over.

So no, I don't hate walmart at all. They gave my bro a shot when no one else would, and he was able to continue to work and provide for his family.

All retail stores buy from China....not just Wal-mart
The small-town store was on the decline before Wal-mart came,
but its nice Wal-mart started building in smaller towns so you wouldn't have to drive to the city.
Pay is bad? In general pay is bad in the retail industry...your small town store paid even worse. I still won't buy anything fresh from Wal-mart though, their produce and meat counters are disgusting compared to other stores. Also I'm sick of seeing empty Wal-mart stores left to rot because of government tax breaks given because of the SuperWalmart change over. I'm also sick of firearm background checks being called in by people making $6 an hour and pharmacy techs coming from the sales floor. If you wanna buy a firearm with a felony its easy there. Its also easy to have your prescription mixed and die. So yes I have problems with Wal-mart

I go to many other stores to keep from going there, and only do so if I absolutely have to. I hate that they took away all the small town businesses, so I've always been against them, and I hate their cheap products. They don't contribute to society by hiring enough cashiers, etc. Everything they stand for is everything I am against.
