Will my labor with my first child be similar to the type of labor my mother had? She was only in labor for 12 hours. I'm hoping I'll be just as fast.

Do you know of any statistical data to back this up?

It all depends on your body, the size of the baby, potential problems, how relaxed/tense you are, etc. The first labor is typically the hardest because its your body's first time. I know women that have had 4 hour labors their first time, and people like me who had a 50 hour labor.

I am unaware of any statistical data that would indicate that labors are similar to that of the woman's mother. I believe it's all individual.

Everyone's labor is different, but yes, if your mom had long hard labors you will have more of a chance of having long labor, and if your mother had short labors, you also have a better chance of having a short labor.
For me personally, my labor was exactly like my mom's. With all her kids, she was in labor a very long time and never dilated past 4 cm, and wound up having to have a c-section. Then, when I had my son two years ago, I was also in labor for 24 hours and never dilated past 4 cm, and wound up needing a c-section.

I'm not saying yours will be like your mom's but it is possible.

There is no data to back up the duration of labor.

My mom was in labour with me for 36 hours (before going for a c-section) and I gave birth in 6 hours...with less then an hour of pushing.

It all depends on your own body, how well you can push, the size of your hips, and how the baby is positioned.

There is no corecation between mothers & daughters labor time, rather first labors tend to last on adveradge 16 hours. Can be more or less. By the way 12 hours is not very short.

i guess you've been fortunate no longer to be in exertions for a lengthy time period. yet heavily isn't actual... the more effective children the a lot less time in exertions. I my self have 4 children. 1st 18 hours, second 16 hours, third 24 hours and my 4th change into more effective like 12-14 hours. The pushingout area change into always quick. in spite of the undeniable fact that it change into the exertions that took continuously. So it variety of feels. yet when you're afraid something might want to take position. perchance have a chum or love one round, exceptionally once you're in course of the due date basically in case. Congratulations n sturdy success

Every woman is completey different!!!!!

I have a book here that was given to me by my midwife when i was pregnant with my first.
It says that 'most' first time labours are usually about 12 hours and seconds and thirds etc are faster!

With my daughter i was in labour for about 11 - 12 hours and after two years with my second it was about 7 hours.

So my labours went like the textbook said but like i said all labours are completey different!

Who knows!

Good luck

Every women and pregnancy is different. I couldn't compare myself to my mother because she had c-sections with all of us - my two older brothers and myself. My oldest brother was a breeched baby, so they had to take him out by cesarean. So because she already had a c-section once I think they just told her that they were gonna deliver any future pregnancies that way from then on because she already had the scar. So every pregnancy after that, they just gave her a date to come in and they were gonna reopen the scar and deliver her that way. So my mom wasn't really too much in labor and never really experienced what other mothers went through. Lucky.. for me, I'm almost positive I'm gonna have to give birth vaginally and go through all that other good stuff!
