You never know when that little song or video clip you send to a few friends may make it big or get national recognition (that's kinda how South Park was discovered).

Always get permission to sample and list the original artist and song and copyright info in the liner notes after all the pros who sample do that too.

It is not wise to use copywrighted material without permission .

Contact the record company for sample clearance and Harry Fox Agency for a compulsory license .
It does not pay to use songs without permission because you could get sued .
It does not matter whether you want the sample for local or national distribution it still needs to get clearance .
