I add a couple of drops of Mrs. Smith's Bluing for extra whiteness. Bleaching whites over time yellows the fibers of the garment. Adding bluing to the wash water before you put the clothes in every third time you wash them will make them eye popping white. You can find Mrs. Smiths in grocery, drug and discount stores in the laundry aisle and a little bottle literally lasts years.

Either use an oxidizing agent, like Shout or the equivalent, or you can add a bluing agent after bleaching. Adding a VERY mild blue dye will make the yellowed clothing look white again. Of course, if you use too much, the clothes will have a blue tint, but that is self correcting the next time you bleach.

Sometimes when you leave white clothes in the dryer too long it turns the clothes yellow. Also make sure you use bleach but not too much because this is the reason it turns yellow in the dryer. you know with the bleach and the heat.

Half the recommend dose of bleach but ONLY if the 'whites' are cotton. Synthetic fibers like polyester or rayon will yellow with chlorine bleach so use non-chlorine bleach, cold water and reduced dryer time.

Wash whites only in hot water and detergent. Add 1 cup of scented bleach once the water level is full. For best results use the largest load level available. For added freshness, add you favorite fabric softener.

I also use bluing. In addition, try soaking your white clothes before letting them aggitate. I soak mine for about an hour and then let them run through the cycle. Snowy white clothes every time!

I hear not adding white socks in with white clothes helps due to the socks having a lot more dirt and grime in them.
