I ask because it almost always seems like most guys care about appearance and I feel like I may not have a chance nor be in the right place... meaning the community I live in.

Like any romance, you can meet anywhere, but I feel that isn't the answer you are looking for. when i first started to look for other gay men, just to talk to I went to chatrooms and message boards. I lived in a very small town with zero gay tolerance. I never really felt like the bars and such is where I belonged, I didn't feel I would fit in. Eventually I started meeting people off of the net and personal ads some were really really bad experiences others very good. Just be safe always safe...
go to www.connextions.org, its a great free personal site, looking for friends whatever. You can search myspace, go to your local gay center, pride day, bars and clubs can be fun, eventually you will find you belong and have more in common than you think.
Dates: Typical movie romance dates, going to the park, coffee shops, dinner and a movie, one time on a date I went to an arcade place and we played 2 player games and it was a lot of fun, another date we went to an amusement park and made out in the haunted house. :)

Pretty the same as guys look for girls or girls for guys. It could be at a party, a gathering, in the park. Typical date depends in what they like to do sometimes a dinner, other a walking, a coffee, etc. If you look for a date there are plenty of web pages that offer this service. Just be careful and use your brain.

I met my guy at Fenway Park in Boston. The game way about to start and we both were in the beer line. He wound up having the seat right next to me.Turned out he was the playground bully that used to torment my older brothers. Talk about a small world. It was like destiny! Love at first sight, and really great seats. I don't even remember if the Red Sox won or who they played.

Best places for gay men to find each other is in public parks, men's bathrooms, roadside rest stops, truck stops, and cemeteries any time after it gets real dark
