I have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome and now high grade squamous cells on my cervix. Doc recommends a hysterectomy.Has anyone had the procedure and did it help or make matters worse?

My wife had this......she also had cervical dysplasia, which, I would imagine, is probably what you have. My wife's doctor told her that if she didn't get a hysterectomy, then it's just a matter of time and we'll be fighting cervical cancer. Although she wanted another child, we couldn't take that chance. Talk to your doctor again, and ask about the pros and the cons about this. It sure did help my wife.....at least we don't have to worry about cancer. You should be fully informed, don't be afraid to ask any questions. I wish you the best of luck........

To be honest I'm not sure if I would have it done just because of high grade squamous cells. I was 17 when I had the same thing and they did the leep procedure on me and I have never had a problem since then. I'm now 34. I also have PCOS. I would question his theory first before I just jumped into a hysterectomy. If your not going to have kids or try for kids I really would get a second opinion.

As far as making better or worse. A friend of mind has PCOS and a hysterectomy and it didn't make a difference for her.

I've been offered to have my left tube only tied as it appears to be worse than the right and the doc said it "might" help. But I'm still young and want children so I'm seriously worried if I do it might muck things up. If you don't want children or already have them then I've been told it does work well as it helps relieve all the symptoms. The only down side is you will almost definately gain weight (a problem with pcos anyway) so personally if your symptoms aren't too bad I'd think long and hard about it. If you have everything going wrong with you like I do, I'd consider it. Anything to make me feel "normal" heh. My best friend had one done for pcos and she thinks it's the best thing she could have done!
I reckon it's personal choice.
