for me, valentine's day has never been solely a "romantic" holiday. ever since my childhood, my family has done special things for each other every valentine's day, to show that this day is about celebrating all the people you love in your life; not just your romantic interests.

The same reason people are so happy to get Christmas presents. That too has tons of reminders etc. It's always nice to get something special from someone. With the love/heart theme of Valentines day it's a good time to get/give a romantic gift.

I'm a certified Valentines Grinch.

Its personal to me because I lost my sister two days before 10 years ago. Whenever I and my family would go out to the grocery store, florist, wherever there were hearts and flowers everywhere.

I would just rather stay home and watch anime and have some kettle corn.

I had a real sucky vday the last 2 years, Vday is a commercial holiday to make singletons feel more alone. Or to help slime balls make a break up that much more dramatic.

vday sucks

It is just another way merchandising has wrapped it's little finger around people.

I always tell my husband to overlook it. I would rather he show his love every day like he does instead of just one day a year!

people have been told that it represents love and different associated feelings. i just think they are prolonging that belief. its just like xmas. nobody really spends time with you anumore, they would rather buy you something, and its rather depressing. i think its special because of the symbolism in it whih doesnt necessarily involve spending money.
