I feel that I am doing everything correctly :) i went to the doctor this morning, then i went to have lab tests done such as urine and blood and then i made my first pre natal appt for feb 27th since i am only 4 weeks along right now. I am overwhelmed with excitment althought I just called my insurance to see what I will be covering and as of right now I pay $244.00 a month for just me. The first prenatal visit there is a 20$ co pay then the rest are covered 100% BUT the testing and lab fee's and ultra sounds... i have to pay untill i reach my 500 deductable THEN after i reach that i pay 30% they pay 7% till i reach 1500 coinsurance. The even shittier thing is my plan gets renewed in April and I have to start my deductible all over again! Then after all that i have to pay 3000 max for labor and delivery (which as i understand isnt that bad) since hospital bills cost anywhere from 3000 to 30,000! Do you think i am getting ripped off by geisinger health insurance?

When I signed up for my medical insurance I was told that marernity insurance is very costly and often has a lot of red tape sort of stuff, like not being covered the first year sometimes longer, and certain things not being included...

What they recommended was opening a flexible spending account for medical related expenses and depositing a set amount away each month ( usually a 5,000 max per year). The good thing is that money is not taxed, and can be applied to any out of pocket medical expenses...

I was also told that if any complications arise during the delivery it is no longer considered labor and delivery, the hospitalization would be covered as another type of medical problem (I didn't understand that fully)... Hopefully that wouldn't happen, but in the event that it does insurance would cover that part...

Also are you married, even if you aren't, once tha baby is born, you might be able to have some of those costs covered by the father's insurance...

I hope it works for you... I am hoping to have a baby and worry about the insurance costs as well... Much luck and congrats

I went through the same thing with my insurance when I was pregnant and when I renewed, I made some changes that were supposed to help with the problem and instead they refused to cover the pregnancy as it was a pre existing condition... it didn't make sense to anybody, including the insurance reps that I talked to and they told me that I would have to appeal the decision which can take up to one year... I decided not to and cancelled my policy and went and got on acchs. It made more sense because there was not point in paying 300 a month for insurance that wasn't going to cover the major health issues in my life. I think that you should consider doing the same thing because the last thing that you should stress about while pregnant is health care. Good luck and congratulations!
