Well, I just got my '05, and I love the car. Make sure yours hasn't been beaten too badly (these cars tend to get hammered because of all the power). I decided to get the LS2, just because there was more power. The LS1 is plenty strong!
Do a vehicle history report, and check with your local Pontiac dealer to see if there was a lot of warranty work on yours. Good luck!
Followup: Anthony below seems to think GM is sending data to the police. While I suppose anything is possible in this age, the GTO doesn't have OnStar... I have heard of these 'Flight Recorders' in vehicles, and have heard of people getting ticketed because of them, but it may all be rumors as well. Personally, I don't believe it... to be safe, when doing wacky things with the GTO, do them on the track!

My fiancee has a 2005 GTO and he loves it. It has had some electrical problems but the warranty took care of that. The 2004 only has 350 horsepower though not the 400. If you can get an 05 then get one because it is better than the 04. It has the hood scoops too which the 04 doesn't have. But yes it is a good car and very fun and very fast! If you can get a good deal then go for it but make sure you are getting that warranty!

This is an excellent car and it is a great buy. It is half the price of a corvette but still can beat the corvette on the drag strip. I would recommend the 6.0 liter Gto (which is the 05 -06 models) because you get 400 hp with that will make a statement when you drive it. BUT if you are getting a GM car period and you are planning to go fast with it BUY A NEW CPU all GM cars after 2000 have black boxes which record your speeds and the on star will automatically send reports to the police for you going fast. Hope you buy the GTO and have fun wih it.

I've never owned one but I wouldn't mind having one. I think '04 was the only year that the 5.7 LS1 engine was offered. I think any of the late model GTO's would be a good collector's car to have someday because they never really caught on and the 5.7 would only make it more desireable. BTW, I have a 2000 SS with the LS1 and they are strong motors

In Chicago the insurance will be about $3-5K/yr. Doesn't matter who's policy it's listed under, you are the primary drive & your 18. Get a 4 cyl car instead.

Keep in mind that this vehicle's concept and design were taken from the Holden which is an Australian auto manufacturer.....many of the parts are special order and more $$$$$.this vehicle is going out of production due to low sales.....will end up an "orphan" vehicle.....good for collectors...not for drivers.............................................
