That is too general of a statement. The degree of the influence from music depends on the person. Some people are susceptible to being influenced more than others.

I think you also have to take into consideration that people normally listen to the kind of music that best represents them and their feelings. This could give the perception that the music is influencing the person.

You would also want to consider that the supporters of a certain kind of music influence what the artists will write about. Music is consumer driven.
