instead of saying how grateful they are to have the Police rooting out terrorists? Why can't Muslim leaders openly condemn terrorism and support the Police's difficult job of protecting ALL of us?

Some good points, thanks. Dave - spot on. Josh - agree, they will support their brother Muslim. An Arabic proverb says something like 'I might hate my cousin, but we'll unite against the common enemy'.
Sashtou - good point about 'vested interest in the outcome'
Sparkpixie - might be some media bias.
However I was on a bus in London last year & saw a young Muslim man in 'unseasonable outerwear'; made me feel sick with fear - racist, or just fear?
Bob - I don't believe they're harrassed by the Police - *****-footed around, more like.

Actually Muslim leaders have been asking for help from the police to deal with extremists for years. Until 9/11 they were ignored as the police & MI5 completely underestimated the threat from Islamic terrorists. As far as they could see terrorism was the IRA & nothing else. Thats why Abu Hamza was allowed to remain free as long as he did. The elders at the Finsbury park mosque had given up asking the police for help.
Since 9-11 they have sat up & started taking notice & are now proactive in dealing with these threats. Muslim leaders do openly condemn acts of terrorism, it just doesn't get picked up on by the media.

It's easy to play the victim-not so easy to face up to what your next door neighbours may have been planning to do behind closed doors. I'm surprised that they're not more on side, what with the soldiers in question being their Muslim brethren.
What's the betting that if some squaddie on leave beat the living you-know-what out of a group of young men he perceived as threatening him in light of these events, they'd be burning effigies in the streets and demanding he feel the full weight of British justice and the army's wrath BEFORE any trial.

Because of the harassment that Muslims continually face, purely because they are all seen as 'terrorists'. Because, of the large numbers arrested under the Terrorism Act, most are released without charge, and only a very tiny minority actually face charges. Becuase when a few people get arrested, they are made to somehow represent Islam as a whole in the wider population (you only have to read some of the answers here to see that). Because the State has decreed that there is a "clash of civilisations", and thus there is one, despite most ordinary Muslims being bemused at such an absurd concept. Etc.

It is just the sh1t stirrers who complain , most of the normal everyday guy who happens to go to a mosque would be quite happy that the police have caught some one mad enough to commit such a crime. It might be a military man this time and next time it would be some who the fanatics think it working with the infidels

maybe just maybe the reason the police knew about all this was because someone shopped them? would in my head make sense to think that it was another Muslim? not a fact but just a thought! is like saying a few years ago that all Irish where terrorists! there are always murdering b*stards in any society. shouldnt be tolerated in any society though. i would shop my brother if he was a terrorist! no excuses!

It is just possible that 'those who have a vested interest in the likely outcome of a terrorist act,' are not likely to praise the Police for stopping it from happening.
[ Some people are very child-like in that, they HATE to have their machinations and resulting FUN spoilt. ]
I do wonder if they would voice the same opinion out loud in countries like Saudi Arabia?
Sash.

Thats why they are here in the first place. We're easy to take over because of our anti racist laws. We're easy meat!!. SEE IT!!

don't think you will get much support for the police they will probably be called racist
I think there would have been a outcry if it was whites wanting to do this to a British Muslim soldier

Muslim leaders have been and are continuously, vocally and vehemently condemning terrorism.
Furthermore I think you'll find police whilst "rooting out terrorists" are doing a fair amount of persecuting anyone who looks even remotely Asian or Arab, sits down in a 'strange place', carries computer components to work, or wears unseasonal outer wear.
