If my period returns can I still breastfeed? I thought I couldn't have a period while still nursing, has this happened to anyone else?

Yes you can get your period while breast feeding thats why doctors will warn you now breast feeding alone is not effective birth control. It can easily come back if your baby is old enough for solids. As your baby eats more solids he requires less milk. If your body is makig lesss milk your hormones can start to shift and change stimulating ovulation and your period returns. Mine came back at six months and unfortunately my milk completely dried up I had to struggle to keep up a good supply anyway. My baby is 8 months old now and I had to put him on a bottle I hate it and still don't let anyone else feed him cause it's my time with him I don't want to let the bottle change that. I am so jealous of my mother who breast fed all 10 of her children to a year old poured like a fountain and didn't get her period back until atleast a month after weaning everytime. Must be nice. My midwife told me you can continue to breastfeed it will not hurt your baby a surge in hormones may make your milk taste different and your baby may protest at first but it won't hurt anything.

Breastfeeding can keep your period away but it is different with everyone. Mine came back at about 3 months even though I nursed exclusively for almost a full year before introducing any foods. If your baby is 9 months old it's likely your period is starting to come back. Most people have started introducing baby food and baby cereal at this point, so if your baby isn't nursing as much as she/he used to, that would contribute to it.

If you are really concerned about the bleeding, call your doctor or nurse help line and they can help you determine if there is anything to worry about.

You can nurse while on your period. Keep drinking lots of water and eating healthy.

You can bleed while breastfeeding it has happened to me it means that either your milk production and babys consumption is down to where your not full time which is on par since baby is eating more solids and less milk or it could mean that the birth control you are taking like the mini pill is causing it which also happened to me i fond that nursing and taking that pill was fine but as soon as something changed a little bit like one less feeding or eating at a different time could cause me to bleed so its nothing wrong it just means that your body has adjusted to baby not eating so much and it ALSO MEANS NO UNPROTECTED SEX unless you want another baby soon since you willprobaly have the return of periods and ovulation which may have alreay occurred hope i was of some help

You can still breastfeed and get your period. You don't have to stop breastfeeding. I never missed a period when I was breastfeeding my son and I exclusively nursed him for nearly two years. Everyone is different.

Don't worry, as your baby is now 9 months old you will not be feeding him/her as much which just means that your hormones in your body are beginning to return to a normal level.
If you do not want another baby soon, make sure you are using effective contraception.
You can continue breastfeeding for as long as you like, your periods won't affect anything.

of course you can breast feed and have a period it is no big deal if you are having problems and want the milk to still keep flowing pump the milk out that way you wont dry up so quickly

Who told you that? Of course your period will come back (unless you get pregnant again) There's nothing wrong with nursing it has nothing to do with your period. It helps your uterus go back quicker that's all (with of course the benefits to the baby)

Everyone is different. I had a normal period from the time I'd give birth, and I always breast fed. You are fine, and yes you can continue breast feeding as long as you want.

you can have your period while you are nursing. most the time your body will "turn off" your period while you are nursing, but it's not a sure thing.
