What do you think of his books, particularly The Firm and The Pelican Brief? I have not read any of his books, but I recall the film adaptations of those two.

John Grisham is captivating writer. He really gets people hooked into the story. Glorious detail. Almost flawless. I was just about to ask a question about him, he's one of my favorite authors right now. He usually writes books dealing with law but I believe in this new thing he's doing now. He's trying to stray from that pattern. Some people appreciate it, such as me. Others say he should stick to law. But he's trying to be a well rounded author and I think it's working. I respect him as a legit storyteller. He's a "fair" writer. Interesting he's one of my favorite writers and I say that, well I'm a tough critic.

I loved The Pelican Brief. I thought it gave far more insight into the characters than the movie did. (ALthough I did like the movie, too.) My favorite book by Grisham was probably The Last Juror. I do enjoy his work, but I feel he is at his best when he is writing about southerners and the south. He really has a flair for making the characters come to life.

Those two books are goods reads, as is The Chamber and a Time to Kill both of which were also adapted into movies. His writing has become a bit repetitive and formulaic though, for me I'd stick with his earlier works, which I thought were more solid.

He is good at what he does. His books are easy/fast to read and entertaining. Not what I would call overly intellectual or great literature. Kind of like the difference between Oscar contending movies and made for TV movies.

I felt he followed a basic template: young, righteous lawyer fighting huge, evil powers-that-be. They are formulaic and dull and often misogynistic. But, he's made more money as a writer than he did as a lawyer, so more power to him.

What do you do, sit around all day and take polls about various authors? Rhetorical.
