If the eagle appeared realistic--as eagles do in nature, it is to be interpreted as per Native tradition--see 'Milly' above.
If the Eagle was unique, I would look at it as a message; however, for interpretation one needs more information--the predominant colour of the eagle, and the feelings the encounter caused--awe, love, or fear, for example. The white eagle often represents ones spiritual guidance, other colours may have other meanings (leader, hunter, freedom, etc), subject to the beliefs of the interpreter. It may help your friend to meditate on the eagle and seek its meaning.
I hope it helps.

I have a slightly bizarre answer to your question which you may feel free to reject at will.

It is just that I read once about a man who was a member of our modern day society so much so that he was a police detective. However he was also was a native american indian descendant whose father had told him how their people believed that it was possible to shape shift to an animal of their choice when they had a great need. It turned out that this man did this quite accidentally one night when he was thousands of miles away from the woman he loved and missed greatly. He had gotten a little drunk in a bar, an uncomman uncurrence for him and had walked home. However his next memory is of waking up lying under a tree in a park near his home. He had had a dream that had felt so real that he had became an enormous eagle, easily 3 feet tall, and that he had flown to his beloved and landed on her windowsill to watch her sleep. Being a modern man he shrugged it off and went on with his life. But unknown to him his lady love had awoken that very same night because her very loyal and protective german shepherd was wining and thumping his tail. She looked around and nearly died of shock when she saw the largest eagle she had ever seen, she described it as easily being 3 feet tall. What astounded her most was that once her initial shock had passed she was unafraid and quite calm. Her dog convinced her because he was also unafraid and made noises like a puppy greating someone he loved (this was a fully mature german shepherd). Oh by the way I forgot to mention the boyfriend bought the dog, as a puppy, for the woman and he and her raised him before they separated.
.
It is out there I know. But I bet if you researched in your local library you could find some evidence of this belief in native american indian spiritual teachings. Still I just had to tell this to you. The story still gives me the shivers and I just cannot quite convince myself that it is rubbish.
.
I hope this is of interest to you and your friend.

Not exactly sure what you meant by window grill (unless you live in the kind of neighbourhood that requires bars on the windows)

but if that isn't the case....

I would keep the windows closed because those things have been known to scoop up babies and or small dogs...

they also crap all over the place

you do realize how big 3 feet is right? that's one big a** bird!!

Sounded like a 3 foot eagle. The reason why he arrived was food which is also the reason why he left.

If an Eagle has soared into your life, know that The Great Spirit is with you. Eagles hold the wisdom of Spirit and you own Spiritual healing. Trust, then you will know The Way to wholeness, say I am one with Great Spirit.

Why the Eagle came was to remind you of:
You do not honor yourself and others, You cannot demand respect from others, for you have failed to give it in return

Love & Blessings
Milly

Um, I don't think so... maybe it was curious or something... I have no idea... or maybe it was tired, took a break... or it thought it saw some food, and decided to look if there was any. Just because something strange happens doesn't mean that it's some sort of SIGN.

Have you ever read into Medicine Cards??? They are these cards that are kinda like the Tarot in an animalistic sense...there is one for the eagle and you could find some truth in it. They sell them at bookstores. Try it out and you may find your sign in them.
