I'm not trying to start a fight here, but...
Considering that weather experts rarely predict what the weather will be like a week from now, how can we be so sure they can accurately predict what it will be like 100 years from now?

Weather and climate are two different things my man.

Ok, I don't think you have much experience in the science field. There's more to Global Warming than just the weather. There's been countless research that goes into discovering what is going on up in the Pole. It's a really complicated topic unless you have some sort of Science background. As far as predicting the weather, well.....those guys aren't the real "experts" that you mentioned above. The real experts are the ones who goes out there and do some researching. If Science can do things like dating back to something was alive, such as fossils, I'm pretty sure they can predict what will happen in the future. If you want more info you can head out to a nearby community college and ask a professor in the science department. I'm pretty sure they'll have something interesting to tell you about global warming.

As someone pointed out, it's not the same. Predicting the weather is a guess of future events based on relatively small and chaotic pressure systems. Speculating about the future of the climate is extrapolating years and years of measurements and data.

Anyway... I really don't understand why right-wingers think this is some kind of massive leftist conspiracy. The VAST majority of climatologists agree global warming is happening and that man is responsible to some degree. Are you suggesting that every single one of them is colluding with one another for an evil liberal agenda?

If so, what would that agenda be? Do you think they'd want to harm industries by enforcing climate rules? Why would they bite the hand that feeds them? Don't you think they would only call for pollution controls and the like if they thought there was a serious threat?

In order to predict the future, you need to analyze past and current trends. It is called 'science'!

Scientists have enough evidence to suggest that our planet has been warming up since 50-100 years but even warmer now. Thus, if the world's populations still do not want to change this mentality from now on and just see it as a political game only, then what will happen to the next generations to live in this planet?

Global warming is not a Gore- propaganda! Even Bush has admitted. However, he refuses to sign the Kyoto Protocol simply because he is not ready to make changes especially the way of oil, gas and automobile industries are doing their business. To change the law means companies have to cut back so many jobs and close down many factories and production activities which rely on burning, releasing and contributing CO 2 to the air we breathe. He mentioned Americans interest i.e job security and economy needs to be protected 1st!

You can read scientific researches, data, journals, reports and trends at www.bbc.co.uk (which is not bias and neutral). Also, if you still have a doubt, simply Googling under the topic of CryoSat- the satellite which responsible to record the graphic/evidence/ visual of the ice/ water level in the Artic. Melted ice increases water level bit by bit, year by year SIMPLY because the globe is warming up . Studies shown that human activities are the main cause of it!

Goodluck!

how strange in the 1970s these same scientist were warning about us gong into another ice age because we had so much debris in the atmosphere the sun was blocked from entering earth at its correct intensity? now we are going into a warming cycle? did we clean up the atmosphere to good?
how many of you have ever read the bible? it tells you there that we will see weather trends that change and the seasons change, that was 2000 years ago, some one must have been darned smart then to predict this so long ago and now our scientist are just beginning to realize it, yes our weather patterns are changing as predicted 2000 years ago, but, is it because of mans abuse of the earth or a natural trend? just as many scientist believe it is just a natural trend by looking at the tree rings on trees that have lived for thousands of years, and several othe indications, I don't believe anyone including our scientist knows , how strange that so many people will say there is no god , who predicted these things 2000 years ago, yet will believe some scientist who are saying the same thing today?

Weather flucutates from day to day, and from year to year. But the overall trend for the last 100 years (since emissions of carbon dioxide increased) has been to get warmer and warmer.

Carbon dioxide traps infra-red radiation in our atmosphere, preventing the heat from escaping back into space. This is well understood, and not controversial.

Climate experts are not trying to "accurately predict" climate 100 years from now. They are merely pointing out that the Earth is warming due to increased CO2 emmissions, and that there is world wide disaster looming if we do nothing to reduce emmissions.

We can't know for sure, of course. Glaciers might break off into the ocean next week and radically change worldwide weather patterns, sending civilization into chaos, for all we know.

But as scientists we can look at past weather patterns and hypothesize about what might happen.

Most scientists hypothesize that something significant is happening, indeed. Most call this something "global warming."

The models used to calculate the outcome, as well as the science behind it, as well as the data available and combined with the effort of thousands of scientists as opposed to the Fox news meteorologist is the reason why it is more accurate. I think how bad it is going to be though has too many variables to really say though. I agree that man is definately adding to it and making it worse but whether stopping throwing carbon molecules into the air at the cost of the world economy.. hmm too soon to make that call I think.

We know for sure that the weather patterns are different now than they were even 5 years ago. Strange weather conditions are occuring in areas of the Country; straight line winds, loads of snow, ice cap melting, etc. How much more do you need?

The scientific evidence is absolutely enormous. You would have to be absolutely pigheaded not to see and acknowledge the evidence that is being broadcast every day. in any case they don't need to be absolutely right on the trend is definitely there whether it's one day off or 50 years off the fact of global warming can no longer be ignored or buried it's happening right now under your nose. Even the corporations are starting to wise up don't you think it would be wiser for you to stop being in denial and deal with the problem now.

I think we're still emerging from the last Ice Age....No modern human really knows how warm the earth was before this period...its all conjecture...and the Neanderthals didn't leave us any weather reports...!
