Dean makes a fine instrument. their tuning machines tend to be a bit cheap but the tone for the money is great. The amp is way weak though. My recomendation would to be get a peavey millenium which is about $200 and a behringer bass amp also for about $200. it is a bit more than you wanted to spend but it will also give you years of play rather than maybe a year.

I would recommend one of the Ibanez or squier basses over this one. I've played a couple of Dean's Playmate series instruments, and they're affordable, but it's easy to see why when you pick one up. If you can, try to save up a bit more and look for a used Ibanez or Squier starter bass. Local pawn shops can be a great place to find a good beginner's instrument.

That is a good Bass Player package with everything you would need starting out .

If it is in your price range go for it .
Musicians friend and Guitarcenter.com has some nice affordable packages for less money and the same setup with Bass,Amp and Gig bag .
