Why are kids so disrespectful, rude and lazy? Teachers are trying to prepare you for the real world. If you think teachers are mean, wait until you have a boss and a real job.

Problem? Well your question is too vague. Some teachers might seem mean, but if you think all of your teachers are mean than obviously it is not the teachers with the problem. As the above answer says, if you think teachers are mean, wait until you get a REAL job. What you are doing is just groundwork. Just know some teachers are strict not to be mean, but to prepare you for the real world who will not listen to any excuses. You will just be jobless. Those overly nice teachers who let you get away with everything could care less about their student's futures. They just want to create an easy environment to collect a paycheck and not teach anything.

Teachers as a group are not mean any more than (let us say) police officers are mean. There are stricy standards and firm responsibilities in both cases. A teacher's job is to get each student to perform to the best of his or her ability. It is not likely this will happen unless the teacher motivates the student to perform. Students are not mature adults, and need to be prodded to do what is expected of them: most would rather be hanging out, watching TV, having fun - rather than learning what will prepare them for an adult role in the future. The police officer who gives you a summons for reckless driving isn't being mean; the teacher who punishes you for shoddy work or behavior isn't being mean either. If you demonstrate that you are truly doing your best, a teacher will not punish you for the result of your efforts.

I would suggest to you that most techers arent "mean". They expect certain behavior from you as a student and a certain level of productivity. Think of your time spent as a student as if you were working at a place of employment. Are you doing your job in an acceptable manner? Is your productivity and performance up to standard? Is your employer (teacher) asking you to do anything that is not expected in the job description?
Chances are your teacher is not mean but just expects you to do your job.

You are right sometimes we can be mean. For no reason. Some feel the power and it overwhelms them, other just because... They don't understand that being understanding yet firm , you accomplish more. I wish you luck.

Observe what they have to put up with every day, then ask the question again if you are still blind to it.

they are not, they just want you to succeed and if being mean is the same as being strict i think that explains it.
