This was true when Liverpool won the Champions league in 2005. Why not, re-instate the old Eurpopean Cup? Only the actual champions of each European nation can compete (and make it as it was, a knockout only competition). Keep a 'Champions League' (change the name to suit) but make it completey a league, with no knockout stages. Increase the number of teams that can qualify for this new league and abolish the UEFA Cup?

I've only been in the UK for three years. I don't know much about the old European Cup. We don't get that kind of info in the States. Your idea sounds quite interesting. It might knock each country's competition up a notch. How many teams in this European Cup? 16 maybe? Some European countries don't have any good teams. The best of the bad win. Maybe have an IntertotoCup type play-in for those countries.

I would prefer England to win the World Cup rather than Barnsley win the Champions League

If teams play in two league competitions a season (domestic league plus your 'Champions' League') they will be very, very tired at the end of a season.

A knockout competition is good because it has lesser matches. A league you have to play till the end no matter what.

Are you trying to upset Rankers fans?.. they'd never qualify! but I agree it's not a champions league when a 4th placed team can compete in it. Champions should mean Champions like Celtic were in 1967
