I have tried several times to get help from BT's help desk, i have added an ethernet card at the help desks suggestion, but still no joy. The internet icon on the task bar says "acquiring network". I have tried a manual config which shows as connected, but i still can't access the internet, the IP address and DNS server addresses used were educated guess work taken from my ADSL modem, can anybody throw any useful suggestions at me, apart from throwing the home hub unit in the bin?

I have tried to connect by usb, wireless and by ethernet all result in the same outcome "acquiring network". The hub is a free item from BT but this is not an excuse for it not working. I have tried the reset with the help desks assistance this does not make any difference to the outcome either. I have now tried the command line help as suggested but it says cannot find google.com, i have tried this with the fully working isdn modem i have and it finds google at the 21st line all others previous to that state *.

I have tried adjusting to 10mbs full and half duplex, sadly the same end result.
I have been back onto Bt's help desk, they are now saying i must contact my vendors as there is a clash between my isdn modem and the Bt home hub unit, meaning i need to have my TCP IP Authentication removed and reset and this can only be done by the vendors (pc manufacturers) .
I am now left wondering if a complete pc reset might be the best option to take and only install the software for the home hub?

I had the same problem with BT saying I a needed a new ethernet card and the PC supplier saying it was the home hub. Eventually I found on the internet that you can change the settings under device manager for your ethernet card.
Go to Control Panel, then System, then Hardware, click Device Manager. Select your ethernet card under Network Adaptors, then double click your card entry. Select the Advanced tab Select connection type then from the drop down list select 10 Base T Full Duplex.. Press Ok.

Hopefully you have a connection!

If the full duplex entry doesn't work try 10Base T with half duplex.

Good luck
Peter

Are the properties of your LAN connection showing "Obtain IP address automatically"? or have you manually configured them?

If you are accessing the net using another modem perhaps you can uninstall that modem then try again with the home hub?

When you wrote "isdn modem" in "i have tried this with the fully working isdn modem i have ", did you mean ISDN or ADSL?

There is a difference.

If I remember correctly, broadband cannot run on an ISDN enabled line. Maybe that's where your problem lies...

If it IS an ADSL modem, then the fault may lie with BT. I had terrible problems with my ISP as I was connecting through a BT exchange. Despite many phone calls to them and to BT about the problem, it continued and even threatening to close my account did nothing to help.

Finally it was revealed to me that BT had tried to replace the circuit panel at the local exchange because it had been faulty but for some reason, they could not.

I changed to a different telephone provider (Post Office) and since then I have had no problems - I'm even enjoying 2.2MBs despite my distance from the exchange.

BT are not infallible. Insist on getting it fixed.

The home hub is rubbish, have you tried to coonect through USB it should have came with a blue usb cable, maybe the problem is your internet, try connecting using a different modem to make sure your line is actually on, another thing to try is changingyour ethernet cable to the other ethernet slot.

Either way phone bt and refuse to pay them as you havent been able to get the service you paid for and they will sort that for you

bt home hub is rubbish wat you can do is rest the Broadband Box there is a reset button on the bak off it most times than cures the problem, if not check your internet connetion, if running 2000 or xp click start, run enter cmd and enter it will bring up command page enter in tracert (insure you put space between tracet and google.com) google.com and click enter ( you are access the gateway of your computer, router and bt exhange and so on until it reachs google.com gateway if complete it will say tracert complete, but it may get * appearing in each line meaning fault with that gateway if it happens on the first two lines it means you got a fault from p.c to gateway i.e you in trouble lol

first shut down everything disconnect every wire connected from your computer to your router or modem........... then connect your HomeHUB(HH) to your computer turn on your HH and then your computer and then go to network connections and disable your network adapter by right clicking on it.........wait for 5 minutes and then enable the adapter again.......
