An ocean is:
"a large body of water constituting a principal part of the hydrosphere"
And oceans are the largest division of open water.

A sea is:
"a division of an ocean or a large body of salt water partially enclosed by land"

Hence a sea is a smaller division of open water, and attached to an ocean.

The Ocean is in fact the whole body of water that covers the Earth's surface. We only give them names to differentiate which part of the ocean we are talking about. Some parts of the ocean we misleadingly call "sea", such as the North Sea. Really, seas are large bodies of water not connected to the ocean.

Hope that explains things

Technically, all the world's oceans and seas are part of one continuous mass of seawater. But because the ocean is so big, humans have divided it up and named the different parts. There are five oceans and several dozen seas. Seas are usually smaller than oceans and are partially enclosed by land. But otherwise, they're exactly the same thing.

The biggest three-four (including the polar one I think) are defined as being the oceans - all others including bays & parts of the oceans are seas
