Outlook express is just very basic e-mail.
Outlook is e-mail on steroids, organizer, contact list, to do list.
It has intergration with Word so you can make some pretty amazing e-mails as well as Excel. Better sigs...etc.
Once you've used Outlook you won't want to even look at Outlook express. Get Outlook with Word for better e-mails.

Outlook Express is email only and comes with Internet Explorer 6 and earlier versions. Outlook has so much more: A calendar, tasks, notes, reminders, more mail storage, etc. Outlook Express is no longer supported by Microsoft. Outlook is a part of Microsoft's Office and can only be installed from a legal, purchased copy of Office. You have to WANT Outlook to get it.

If you manage multiple email addresses, then Outlook is not my best choice. Outlook Express allows you to switch between email email addresses so much more efficiently.

Express lacks the networking functionality, as well as the notepad and calendar features. For the average user, Express will do just fine :)
