She is 18 and I am 20. We both lost our virginity to each other in high school and know that we could not of received HPV from anyone else. I dont understand how shes got abnormal cells on her cervix. Everything I look up says its caused by HPV from having numerous parnters. Considering we spend almost every waking minute together for the last 4.5 years I know nothings went on. How did she get this? Does she have HPV? Her doctor just said that the cells where abnormal but nothing about her having HPV I have just read that on the interenet. Someone please help me out here.

alright, doctors really need to learn to explain this better, I worked in an OBGYN clinic for 6 years, and poor girls and their boyfriends get confused all the time. If the doctor only said that she has abnormal cells, its doesn't at all mean that she was unfaithful, or that you caused it. In fact, it probably isn't even an std. It is true that HPV can cause abnormal cells in the cervix, but so can a vast number of other things. If she was close to her period, either before or after it, the pap results could have come back skewed, or if you were sexually active recently before the tests were done, that could have messed them up a bit too because her hormones would have still been a little of, not because anything went wrong. My guess is, she was told this after having a pap smear, the doctor will probably request a repeat pap in 3-6 months, just to be sure that all is well. There is a huge chance that this is absolutely nothing, so don't even worry about it for now. Also, the doctor may ask her to have a procedure done, usually a laparoscopy to remove the abnormal cels and send them into a lab for further testing, from my experience, I would say that about half of the women have an irregular pap screen once a year, and that nearly every women has had at least one in her life. Don't jump to conclusions, and ask the doctor to do a better job explaining the causes of these sorts of things, alot of times they just get too busy and don't realize that their patients may not understand. Just be sure to do everything the doctor asks, procedure wise and such, and don't miss the repeat tests, that way, if it is more serious (not an std serious) it can be taken care of quickly,

This happened to me. Sometimes cervical cells grow abnormally and will be classified in a CIN number (I don't remember what this stands for) and there are CIN 1, 2 and 3. Sometimes these cells don't turn into cancer but they will most likely do one of two things for treatment. A cone biopsy takes some of the tissue from the cervix to examine more closely and determine the CIN number. Then, if necessary, they will do a LEEP procedure, which is also usually an outpatient surgery, when they burn off any other offending cells with electrical impulses. If she has been getting regular paps and caught it early, there is likely to be no problem. I had the LEEP done 5 years ago and I just had my first baby 3 months ago. Give your friend a hug for me. I know it's scary, but she will be ok!

Abnormal cells on the cervix does not mean that it is HPV from numberous partners. She may want to talk with her dr more in dept but some women just have problems. The more that female members of the family have problems, the more likely that she may have problems - it does not mean numerous partners. The best thing is to talk with her dr and get more information. Sometimes the internet is not a good place to get information because the information that you receive may not be the complete information because the internet does not have your complete information. Face to face with the dr is the best thing to do. Good luck to both of you.

It's called "Cervical Dysplasia". I went in for a gyno appt & she said I had abnormal cells. I went & had a biopsy done of the cells. Found out mine was a type 3 pre-cancer. I had an operation in 1994 to remove the cells with a laser. Go back every 6 months & I'm fine-no cancer!!! Good luck!!!!

Are you more worried that she has been sleeping around?
I would say not hunny.... abnormal cells can happen to women, thats why it is improtant the we have our pap smear.
I hope the doc is treating this!
you 2 just be happy and get this sorted by proffesionals, if you have spent all this time together IT MUST BE LOVE

HPV may lead to cervical cancer, but it's not the only cause. Also, abnormal cells don't necessarily mean cancer. And she's very young for cervical cancer.
Chances are she doesn't have HPV (aka genital warts), but keep an eye on those cervical cells.

Its not necessarily from HPV....they are precancerous cells that can form on their own! If the dr. didn't say hpv, then it isn't hpv.

ok mine said the same thing and i dont have n e stds either abormal cells r just there in a womans body and the doc is gonna do something about it
