Okay, first of all, until you meet the person, don't judge if they are a "poser." Once you get past that, you'll be ready to go into this with an open mind.

People that constantly shop at Hot Topic can be any subculture, not just as you put "emo's." If she wants to buy into the fad, then let her. You can express your opinion, but if she doesn't want to listen, then she doesn't need to. I do sometimes buy clothing from Hot Topic, because once in a while they have some really nice things. That was more when it first became a store, because now the fashion they sell has drastically changed. But I'm not emo. So if she is buying clothing because she likes them, then who are you to say anything?

Oh, and yet again, shopping at HT doesn't make you "goth" or "punk". It makes you a person with clothing from Lip Service, Morbid Threads, etc.

Just because someone spends almost 300$ at hot topic, that doesnt make them a poseur*

But if shes trying to be emo, just to be cool or whatever, that would make her one. Why is emo a fashion, because like others said, people make money off of it. But thats like asking with "gangsta" is a fashion.. People make money off of selling "gangsta" clothes. Plus, its part of pop culture, for teens atleast. Its the cool new thing to do..
If the emo music shes listening to is taking back sunday, afi, hawthorne heights, panic! at the disco, etc.. Tell her none of that is emo. The actual music genre died about 15 years ago. Maybe shell change then..

Why is "emo" a fashion? Because people make money off selling junk to kids so that they think by dressing like someone they can be someone.

It sounds like this is what your friend is trying to do too. Talk to her honestly about this, find out if she is just playing "dress up" or is headed to the dark side. You may find your fears laid to rest or confirmed but you cannot act appropriately until you know which road to take.

As for the other hetty.... send a message to Yahoo about this, I find it hard to believe there can be two people with the same ID, and one person posing as another is something akin to identity theft.

She is not emo unless she is cutting her self, she is either goth or punk ...there's nothing wrong with her dressing the way she dose..I'm punk and I'm not a poser ....just b/c you shop at hot topic doesn't mean ur a poser...you need to stop worry about her and start thinkin of ur self b/c ur judging people and thats no friend!

good luck with ur friend
i hope you can work things out!!!

all people who call themselves emo are posers in thee first place and there is nothing fun to pose about. You have the worst days at school. People who used to be your friends push you away. Then when you go home, you think it would be like a refuge but it isn't. You have a mom trying to keep you away from your potential and who's definition of parenting is just giving you material objects. Who wants to wear all black anyways. I have more problems than 98% of Emo kids and you don't see me calling myself emo. Thank god my dad is alive and close or I wouldn't know what to do.

Also People who cut themselves for real purposes don't even like being called emo because they think of themselves as normal kids like you and me but have problems in their lives like me.

your friend sounds like a big poser to me, and if she has to tell you what to wear to school that is pathetic. There is nothing wrong with listening to "emo" music either, it is just a genre. i would stop worrying about your friend and what they want to wear, and if it bugs you that much then just go find new friends.

Sounds like she just needs a few months to do some more growing up, and have the confidence to be herself and not a poser just to fit in.

she probably just wants to fit in and even though its not really "her" maybe give the phases a little time and if she still doesn't hang out with you anymore then consider possibly giving up your friendship. if the friendship is real she wouldn't act fake. i hope this helps
