for a corrupt registry, load up your xp disc off a boot. then run the microsoft diagostic repair tool. It will defragment the registry. Also try to get a DOS antivirus and run it before you defrag the registry because the registry was probably corrupted due to virus. Other causes of registry failures are hardware failures (HD sectors going bad), or someone just started randomly deleting keys. Another good idea is to run a MBR scanner and hardware diagostic tools on any used PC.

I would boot off the Windows XP cd and then take the option to repair (not the repair with recovery console). If that doesn't work, then I would suggest trying a reload of the system.

Good luck.

Linux operating systems are excellent. Try out one of the free distributions. My favorite is UBUNTU. You can download it, or order a CD, at

You will also get all the software, that you will ever need, FREE - See

Can you start in safe mode? As soon as you turn it on , hit the F8 key. See if you can get it started that way.

Other then that, reinstall XP

I don't think there's any harddrive.
Something like this happened with my laptop.
I took it to get repaired so i don't know the full details of the problem.
My advice would be to get it repaired.
