Trusting people is hard for me to do because I've been let down so many times. It's not that I feel the need to friendship but it would be nice to know the characteristics of a true friend.

many of us has been burned by so call friends but how else would we know most people do have short comings even we are not perfect i find they wearing a smile with a nice hello will get you a long way with makeing frined you should search really deep within a person to find if they will be a true friend to you and by just holding conversation with someone will tell a lot about them like are they humble , kind, compassionate,careing,do they pratice responciblity

The only way you can determine if some one is a true friend is to look in the mirror, You say you have been let down to many times. to me this has warning bells all over the place. I would wonder what your expectations were to have this happen, Some people are very needy and have to have a lot of attention and be there for you, If you are calling on people to help you with anything more than 2 times a month then you are not a good friend, you should be able to do for your self, and not rely on others to look after you, so again look in the mirror and see what sort of friend you are, so you will know what a real friend is
