It is legal for ANYONE over 18 to drink in England.

If you are in a different country, you are bound by their laws of the land. Even if you are foreign, if you are old enough under the countries eyes to drink, you may.

I live in England, and I met a friend at university - he had come over from America for 6 months to study, and as long as he had ID to prove he was 18, he could drink.

Yes, you can drink at 18 in England when you are there. Just as when English folk come here, they cannot drink until they are 21. You follow the rules of the country you are in, not the country you come from.

The law in England is you can drink at 18, so, no matter where you come from, if you can prove you are 18, you can drink until you fall over

As long as you meet the legal requirements in the country you are visiting, the laws where you live do not apply to you when you are in another country.

In other words, as long as you are 18 when you are in England, you will be allowed to purchase and consume alcohol, regardless of the fact that you are American and that the US drinking age is 21.

Have fun and be safe!

Yes, people have to follow the laws in England just like anywhere else. If the law says you can drink at 18, then you can drink at 18. Just like it's legal to smoke weed in coffee shops in Germany, no matter where you are from.

As far as I know, you can drink at the local age permitted. I have been to other parts of Europe, and I saw teen drinking, all the way from 13 y/o on. If there was drinking laws, it was probably not enforced.
