Unless her pediatrician is concerned about her weight, I wouldn't worry. My son was breastfed for only two months due to the fact my milk flow, well, wouldn't flow! He looked slightly chubby even then, but he had no hope as both his parents were chubby babies..lol. No, my friends daughter was on breastmilk for a lot longer and she was smaller than my son, but she was healthy as a horse. Some babies are just smaller than others. If you're truly concerned, your pediatrician can tell you what to do. I wouldn't worry, though.

Check your diet and make sure its as healthy as it needs to be. When you take her to her next doctor's appt ask him if he thinks her appearance is a problem. If she isn't drinking enough breastmilk it could be serious.

Meanwhile continue to breastfeed and keep yourself healthy. The benefits of breastfeeding are more than cosmetic. You are helping your baby stay healthier for the rest of her life.

I breastfed my son until he was 13 months old. He was never sick and never had an ear infection. Now at age 7 he has been sick less than 5 times- never catches colds or gets ear or sinus infections. The immune system is built up.

My daughter on the other hand, only breastfed for a few months. She just prefered the bottle. She has had numerous ear infections and sinus infections and catches everything! I swear its because we gave up on breastfeeding too soon!

Regardless, if you decide to give up breastfeeding, know that you gave your girl the best start that you could. Don't worry about comparing her to your friend's child- they are all unique and will grow at their own pace.

Best Wishes!

As long as you get a balanced diet and eat well....then your baby will be getting what she needs. It may just be genetics. Maybe the other babies are just going to be bigger in general. I nursed all three of my kids. My first two were small and still are thin boys. My third was 8 pounds 15 ounces at birth and it still on the big side. He was breastfed for 2 years, and was 20 pounds at 4 months of age. It is just genetics, as I ate the same while nursing all three of my kids.
If your baby is growing properly..gaining weight and staying on her growth curve, then I would not be concerned. Every baby is different and looks different.

By son is exclusively breasfed and he's healthy as a little horse. Possible a little overweight even.

Formula fed babies tend to be chunkier so if it's size you're worried about...don't.

Consult your doctor and make sure he/she thinks that the baby is ok on just breast milk...if there is a problem he may ask you to supplement with one formula bottle or with some poly-vi-sol vitamin suppliments.

All babies grow at different rates so as long as your baby is healthy (according to the doctor)...don't worry about how the other babies look.

Breast feeding is so much healthier than formula feeding. Your baby is getting tons and tons of antibodies that you carry in your body. Your baby is constantly building up an immunity to many things such as respiratory infections, ear infections, allergies, asthma, sids(sudden infant death syndrome), etc. Formula cannot even be remotely compared to the nutrients and antibodies that your baby is getting from breast milk. Just because their babies look healthier does not actually mean that they are. Here is a website for useful information on breastfeeding vs formula. http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/growth/feeding/breast_bottle_feeding.html
Breast feed for as long as you can. Your child will be better off for it!

In what way do these other kids look more healthy? If you can tell the difference you should take her to a doctor right away. I formula feed my son and he was just fine. From what I've heard breastfeeding babies is better because you create a very strong bond with your child and it's nature. They probably add more vitamins to formula but either way is fine. Just please take her to a doctor if she looks unhealthy.

If she looks unhealthy take her to the doctor, i don't believe that breastmilk is so superior to formula, my daughter had formula from day one and she is beyond healthy and only had one cold, not even a full fledged cold more like a runny nose, and she is 2 years old now

Babies gain weight at different rates... this is totally dependant on the baby, not on the type of food. Some babies are just fatter than other babies. Because your baby is breastfed, she is actually healthier than her bottle-fed friends.

If you are worried that she is not eating enough or that she is not gaining enough weight, that is a different problem. If you have a food scale, you can lay your baby on a tray and get a rough weight measurement. Call your doctor to ask if her weight seems ok if you are concerned.

By saying they look healthier...do you meen "plump"? Breast milk is best for your baby. Babies who breastfeed tend to be a little smaller because breast milk has less calories and fat than that of formula. If you are concerned about anything talk to you pediatrician. They make vitamin "drops" for infants, but they get what they need from your milk.

Breastfeeding is more healthier. A lot of time babies are on formula they eat a lot more, so they look a little chubbier. I breastfed my daughter for 12 months, and now she's 15 months, she's only been sick once. My cousin bottlefed her daughter who is now 8 months, and she gets sick all the time.
