Joesph Stalin, not his birth name ( Stalin means man of steel) was born of a working class family with a religiously devout mother and a mean , child beating father. He once much to his mothers coaxing thought of becoming a clergyman. There is a reason he did not, but I can not remember.There was just a few documentaries on the history channel. One about Stalin and one about Stalin vs. Hitler. Stalin was a tyrant. At first he was somewhat for the people, telling them that they would be protected against the Nazi regime and he did try to protect the city of Stalingrad ( a protege city named after him) Once the war was over, he sent many of his own soldiers and citizens to death camps or had them executed for many reasons ( this is where you are going to have to look some stuff up on the net, sorry) It is also rumored that he was a child beater and a wife beater. It is believed that he himself murdered one of his wives. I could tell you more, but you really do have to look it up on the net or get a book, or go to thehistorychannel.com and search him.

You are sure to find a plethora of information simply by doing a search on him. I would also enter additional terms to narrow it down. In the past, I have read several books, and found Stalin's Kampf (his credo) to be full of information...disturbing, yet full. It is by him, so of course you aren't going to get statistics and results and analyses of his aftermath.
